Walking Together for a Cause
Despite the winter chill, the warmth of the Dunnville community was on full display during this year’s Coldest Night of the Year walk in support of True Experience Supportive Housing and Work Program. The annual event brought together residents, teams, volunteers, and supporters to raise awareness and funding for supportive housing and mental health initiatives in the community.
This year, 96 registered walkers — along with several additional community members who joined in on the day of the event — participated in the walk, helping raise an impressive $29,460 toward the organization’s $30,000 fundraising goal.
Supporting Trillium Manor
One of the key initiatives supported through these fundraising efforts is Trillium Manor, which first opened its doors in 2019. Trillium Manor operates without external funding and relies heavily on community support to remain open.
Programs and operating costs are sustained through local initiatives including the Smile Cookie Campaign, the Dunnville Grand Tour, and Connect 6, while the Social Recreation Program receives $10,000 annually through United Way support.
It costs approximately $50,000 each year to keep Trillium Manor operating, covering essential expenses such as mortgage payments, property taxes, utilities, and maintenance.
A Community That Shows Up
Rebecca Booth, President of the Dunnville Chamber of Commerce, attended the event and reflected on the impact community support continues to have in Dunnville.
“One of the things that makes Dunnville special is the way our community continues to show up for one another. Events like Coldest Night of the Year remind us that compassion, connection, and support truly matter. It was inspiring to see so many people come together to support True Experience and the important work they are doing through Trillium Manor.” says Rebecca Booth
Marianne Kidd also participated in the walk alongside Jen Robertson’s team and shared a message that deeply resonated with many participants throughout the evening.
“What if each of us intentionally connected with just six people a day? A smile. A check-in. A real conversation. The ripple effect could change thousands of people’s days. That’s what local impact looks like.” asks Marianne Kidd
The event not only raised critical funding for supportive housing and mental health initiatives, but also served as a reminder of the power of simple human connection and the importance of continuing to support one another as a community.

Mental Health Expo Coming May 6
Looking ahead, True Experience will also be hosting a Mental Health Expo on May 6th from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM at the Dunnville Lifespan Centre. Vendors are currently welcome to participate for a $20 fee.
The organization also welcomes opportunities to speak with local groups and organizations about supportive housing initiatives, mental health awareness, and the growing need for community support services within Dunnville.
